- 01An IEE is a private evaluation conducted by a professional who is not employed by the school district. It gives families an independent perspective on their child’s learning, communication, sensory, or developmental needs.
- 02Families often request an IEE when: • They disagree with the school’s evaluation results or recommendations • They want a more comprehensive or specialized assessment • They’re seeking clarity about their child’s needs and supports An IEE helps families and schools make better-informed, collaborative decisions.
- 03In some cases, the school district covers the cost of an IEE if it is formally requested and approved under your child’s educational rights (IDEA). Families may also choose to pursue a privately funded IEE for faster access or a more personalized evaluation experience. We can guide you through either process.
- 04We offer evaluations in: • Speech & language • Feeding & oral-motor development • Social-emotional communication and participation We collaborate with other professionals if a multidisciplinary approach is needed.
- 05School evaluations often focus on determining eligibility for services. Our IEEs are relationship-centered, in-depth, and strength-based — focusing on understanding the child as a whole person and giving families practical tools and recommendations that go beyond school goals.
- 06The full process — from intake to report delivery — typically takes 4 to 6 weeks, depending on the type of evaluation and collaboration with schools. We prioritize accuracy, communication, and parent understanding over speed.
- 07We use play-based, interactive methods that help your child feel safe and engaged. Sessions are designed to bring out your child’s authentic abilities and reduce anxiety. We may conduct sessions at our Menlo Park Development Center, at school, or in your home, depending on your child’s needs.
- 08With your written consent, yes. We believe collaboration is key. We can attend IEP meetings or provide written summaries to help your child’s team understand and apply the findings effectively.
- 09You’ll receive a comprehensive written report and have a feedback meeting with your evaluator. Together, we’ll review the results, discuss recommendations, and identify next steps for both home and school environments.
