We are proudly presenting at this year’s IECC Conference with the following sessions:

Cultural Eating Differences: Addressing Feeding Challenges in Multi-Cultural Families
Scheduled: Monday, May 6, 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM

This presentation explores the complex intersection of cultural eating differences and supporting infants and children with feeding challenges or disorders within multicultural families. With globalization and increasing cultural diversity, understanding and navigating these differences are crucial for promoting a unified family-centered support for feeding progress. By delving into diverse cultural perspectives on food, we aim to highlight how a deeper understanding and appreciation of family mealtime considerations can significantly enhance our support for children facing feeding differences, challenges, aversions, or disorders. By addressing these challenges through culturally sensitive strategies, we aim to empower families to foster positive relationships with food while honoring their diverse cultural backgrounds.

A Collaborative Approach-Supporting Limited-English Families: Care Teams, Families, & Interpreters
Scheduled: Wednesday, May 8, 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM

Effective communication between different languages naturally presents inherent challenges. This is even more true when supporting children who come from other home languages/limited-English families. Collaboration between the child, family, other members of the care/education team, and interpreters is critical. This session will provide insight into best practices for equitable services for all individuals (regardless of home language), how to best collaborate with families (directly and with interpreters), and how to educate ourselves on linguistic and cultural biases and differences to better inform our professional and individual approach to language diversity.

Language Access for All: Promoting Inclusive Communication Support for Children with Language Delay in Multilingual Environments

Scheduled: Friday, May 10, 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM

There are many children with language delays, differences, or disorders who come from households with other home languages. In this engaging session, we will discuss the importance of equitable language learning by questioning English-centric approaches in supporting children with language delays in multilingual environments. We explore strategies to promote inclusive communication support by better understanding home languages and providing tools and strategies that embrace and support family’s language choices instead of rejecting them. By advocating for language access for all, we aim to empower multilingual families and professionals to provide comprehensive support for children facing language delay, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive in their linguistic development irrespective of their home language.

Acceso Lingüístico para Todos: Promoviendo el Apoyo Comunicativo Inclusivo para Niños con Retraso del Lenguaje en Entornos Multilingües
Scheduled: Friday, May 10, 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM
